Jazz Combo Syllabus
Welcome to the Illini Bluffs High School Jazz Band. I am looking forward to the upcoming year and am excited about working hard so we can be the best band that we can be
The general rules and procedures are the same as outlined n the Illini Bluffs High School Handbook. If there are any questions regarding any policy in the handbook, feel free to ask me and I will answer them.
The grading scale that will be followed is outlined in your handbook. The grading will be based upon your attendance and preparedness for class. Students are expected to be warmed up and ready to start rehearsal at 7:30am sharp. Failure to do so will result in points taken off.
Students are expected to be prepared for every band rehearsal. This includes having an instrument in good working condition, all music and handouts in the folder provided to you and a pencil. If one or more of these things are missing at the time of rehearsal, then the points for the daily grade will be marked 0 (zero). If a student is prepared, he/she will get the maximum amount of points awarded for a daily grade, which is 10.
Points will also be awarded for Concerts and Festivals. Since these things are more important than just a daily grade, the point total available will be 100. IF A STUDENT IS ABSENT FOR A CONCERT PERFORMANCE AND IT IS UNEXCUSED, HE/SHE WILL AUTOMATICALLY FAIL THE COURSE!!! Also, every student is expected to participate in an IHSA instrumental solo or ensemble during the spring semester. If a student chooses not to participate, the highest grade they attainable will be a 93% (B) for the semester. To get the maximum amount of points the student must arrive on time, have music and instrument and be dressed appropriately for the performance. The pops concert will not have a specific dress code, but other concerts and contests the dress will be as follows.
Black Shirt
Black Pants
Black Dress Shoes
Please make arrangements to have this dress for the first concert. There is a schedule for the year’s events on this website. Please share this information with your parents so they are not surprised.
